Opoponax
Often cited to have necromantic powers, the popularity of this perfumed resin in black magic as a protection spell to guard againstnegative influences and increase self awareness continues unabated since ancient-most times. Its fragrance is especially considered to be potent against parasitic entities, psychic vampires and negative thoughts that worm themselves into the mind. Opoponax is also known as "sweet-myrrh" and has a spicy-sweet, slightly floral, woody, balsamic, earthy fragrance with hints of animal and root-like notes. The fragrance is often associated with cleansing/purifying, strengthening, and creative attributes.
Origin
This consumable resin is collected from the opoponax chironium tree which grows abundantly in the warm climates of Iran, Italy, Greece, Turkey and Somalia. These p erennial herbs grows upto a height of 3 meters and have thick, fleshy roots. The have pinnate leaves which are hairy underneath and bears large, flat, yellowish flowers. The trees are tapped at the base to procure the oleoresin. The hardened resin has a reddish-yellow color, with whitish specks on the outside and is commercially available both as tears and in small irregular pieces.

- Opoponax has a deep history as an incense because of the purifying, strengthening and protective attributes of its fragrance. King Solomon allegedly called it the "noblest incense" of all times.

- It possesses antispasmodic and deobstruent properties and was earlier used to treat asthma, chronic visceral affections, hysteria, hypochondriasis and to promote mensuration in women.
