Known by the binomial name of Salvia officinalis, sage is a small perennial evergreen subshrub belonging to the family Lamiaceae. Stems of the shrub are woody bearing grayish leaves and lovely blue to purplish blooms. Though indigenous to the Mediterranean region, sage today is cultivated in gardens all around the world.
