Tea
One of the easiest ways to energize the body and mind without shelling out a fortune or inviting much of a side effect is by drinking a modest cup of tea. In fact, for many, tea acts like an antidote to many unpleasant and uninteresting things in life – long queues, lethargic afternoons, boring meetings, bad movies, nasty headaches and the like. Tea is also kind of a traditional ice-breaker – the best way to initiate or indulge in a conversation when you fall short of words. No wonder, hospitality in many culture is synonymous to "serving a cup of hot tea to guests", whether first timers, regulars, invited or the annoyingly uninvited ones.

Biological Information
Considered as the second most popular beverage in the world, the first being water, tea is a versatile drink that though comes in different types, aromas and flavors has its common origin at the Camellia Sinensis – a plant that can be traced back to Southeast Asia but is now cultivated across a number of different locations around the world. These areas where tea plants are cultivated are known as tea plantations. It is the geographical condition of the plantation area and the tea processing technique used that lends a particular variety of tea its unique taste and fragrance.
Botanical Classification
- Family: Myrtaceae
- Genus and specie: Melaleuca alternifolia
- Other names: Ti tree.
Types of Tea & Their Benefits
Black Tea: The most oxidized of all teas, black tea is comparatively stronger with a rich caffeine content than the other available varieties. Pu-erh tea is a common type of black tea, which is doubly oxidized, making it extremely strong. Black tea plays a vital role in the management of diarrhea, skin infections, heart disorders, diabetes, etc.
Green Tea: This is the least oxidized variety of the tea having a very low caffeine content. A natural rich source of flavonoid antioxidants, green tea consumption, on regular basis, is considered as highly effective against heart attacks and certain types of cancer. Green tea also increases metabolism and burns fat, and is hence extensively used in dieting.
Oolong Tea: A kind of a hybrid between black and green tea, oolong tea is one of the finest available teas produced in China. Exotic and exquisite, it suits the palate of those who prefer a flavor that is neither as strong as black tea nor as mild as the green tea. Reducing high blood pressure, healing skin problems and preventing tooth decay are certain heath benefits associated with the consumption of oolong tea.
White Tea: Though different types of white tea are found, it can be broadly classified into two: the Chinese white tea and white tea of the other regions. The Chinese white tea is a specialty commodity of Fujian region of China. Other popular white tea varieties are Ceylon white, Darjeeling white, Assam white and the African white. All these varieties have antibacterial and antiviral properties, and their consumption is considered imperative for maintaining healthy heart, radiant skin, and strong bones, teeth & gums.
